PICKING A GOOD PHOTO
Choosing a good photo is an important step in creating your custom portrait. While lighting, backgrounds, and shadows can easily be changed, it's important to chose a photo that has a clear shot of the subject. Here are some tips for taking good photos!
Distance- Don't be afraid to get upclose with your subject! Distinct facial expressions capture the unique personalities and make for a better representation.
Angle- Experiment with fun angles! If you have a silly, fun-loving subject, try offsetting or turning the camera for an interesting frame.
Color- When submitting a photo, color is preferred for in order to get a better sense of the subject. You may always choose to commission a black and white painting; however, try and find a color original if possible!
Lighting- Try to avoid harsh, direct sunlight. It tends to washout your subjects. When using a flash, try and make sure there is ample surrounding light in addition to the flash on your camera. This will help with flash glare!
Choosing a photo- For some of you, this may be a difficult decision. But don't worry! Just choose something that reflects the personality of your subject. It's ok if the photo is not a perfect smile of your subject. Dogs with their tongues out, kids laughing, these make for interesting and fun portraits!
